This chapter examines the relation between inner-biblical exegesis and the hermeneutics of innovation. It suggests that modern exegesis may be considered the place of a paradox of measure because it works on a text that was produced in every detail within a particular tradition and it applies procedures and models that have been developed in other intellectual traditions. This chapter discusses the limitations of this transcultural dialogue and the approach developed within the tradition developed by M. Fishbane about twenty years ago.

Keywords: exegesis; hermeneutics; transcultural dialogue; M. Fishbane; bible interpretation
