The town of Balyana stands on the west bank of the Nile in the Sohag governorate. This chapter focuses on two buildings that have played an important part in the lives of Christians here: the old church of the Virgin, which has not yet been studied sufficiently; and the Monastery of Anba Moses of Abydos, two kilometers north of the famous temple of Pharaoh Seti I. It describes their present state and gives a catalog of the icons kept there.
