This chapter analyses recent research on immigrants and the new second-generation Dominican-Americans in Washington Heights in New York City. It suggests that the growth of communities of post-1965 immigrants and their children marks a historical watershed and that there has been a recent surge in scholarship on immigrant communities. It also attempts to bridge the gap in current literature in order to provide a better understanding of Dominican-American politics.
