This chapter examines the work of the Dominican-American leadership in the U.S. It explains that today's leadership is diverse in age, gender, and class background and it emphasizes either ethnic entrepreneurship or community mobilizing in order to meet the needs of and garner power for Dominicans. It illustrates these two ideological tendencies through the use of political statements, community-organizing events, and life histories.
