This chapter discusses the problems of representing, such as those invoked by the two senses of “representing”. It has already been discussed that the deeply problematic assumption that a Latino/Latina taken from one-national-origin-group could in any sense be said to be “representative” of Latinos/Latinas from another group. This leads to the fundamental problem with Latino/Latina panethnicity. However, it is noted that the problem of representation can also arise in much more subtle and even unpredictable forms.
