This chapter presents an empirical account of solidarity in Canada and Cuba, based on participant observation. It explains that Canadian solidarity with Cuba has gained strength particularly since the early 1990s and that the range of people-to-people connections goes from providing material aid to sharing political views. The chapter provides a definition of the concept of solidarity and explores the issues of how solidarity is put into action and what motivates it. It also describes solidarity organizations, friendship groups, and internationalist work brigades.
