This concluding chapter sums up the key findings of this study on the changing civil society in Cuba. The evidence of developments since 1998 seems to indicate a growing official awareness of the possibility that an enhanced and self-confident Cuban civil society can ensure the survival of the revolutionary project as more Cubans vocalize their concerns and engage in efforts to defend the gains of the Revolution. The findings also provide important insights into Cuba's non-governmental organization (NGO) community and its role in, and relationship with, civil society.
