This chapter examines urban revitalization in Belém, a riverfront city in Brazil. The result reveals that the urban interventions carried out along the riverfront in Belém are imbued with political objectives that seek to ratify it as a public social space through the quality of its landscape and the redemption of the different historical phases of the city's evolution and that the very conception of the project does not always promote public access and the enhancement of local culture. The Belém case suggests that the renovation and revitalization of specific city spaces cannot be accomplished merely by physical interventions.
