Redesigning Brownfields in Porto Alegre

Show Summary Details

This chapter examines the redesign and development of brownfields in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The road paved by the re-architecture of the Navegantes Commercial District in Porto Alegre adds a success story to experiments that employ a new concept of place-making, even in spaces with limited attractions such as urban brownfields. These indicate that this urban development trend still has much to offer in the evolution of urban design in Brazil and that it can withstand the new challenges of the postmodern era, such as sustainability.
