This chapter focuses on the call for the U.S. Navy's support for the impending crisis in northern China. The Navy was called to protect the Americans, particularly the American Legation in Peking, after Manchurian warlord Marshal Chang has occupied the Peking-Tientsin area and several other warlords were posing serious threats including General Feng Yu-hsiang and General Yen Hsi-shan. Fearing potential violence comparable to the 1927 Nanking incident, U.S. Minister to China John MacMurray continued to agitate for the implementation of the Army's Yellow Plan.
