This chapter describes a case study concerning Jordan's alliance with Syria during the mid-1970s that focuses not only on military cooperation but also economic integration. It suggests that Jordanian-Syrian alignment appears to have been influenced far less by external security concerns. In contrast, the economic incentives for this alignment, and the development of an increasingly large and influential pro-Syrian coalition within Jordanian domestic politics, were very influential factors.
