This chapter describes a case study concerning the decision of Jordan to realign with Iraq after the collapse of the Jordanian-Syrian alliance in 1979. It examines why the alliance proved so long lived. The findings reveal that the Iran-Iraq war turned out to be a boon to the Jordanian economy and this may have inspired Jordanian policymakers to expand beyond the bilateral alignment with Iraq.
