This chapter describes a case study concerning Jordan's decision to make peace with Israel in 1994. Having weathered the 1991 war, the Hashemite regime quickly used this rare moment in its domestic and regional politics by turning to the peace process in order to recoup its economic and political losses. The Jordanian government gambled on a complete international realignment toward the European Union, the U.S., and Israel and expended much of its political capital.
