This chapter examines the promotion of Samuel Hood to the position of commodore of the Royal Navy. It explains that Hood's appointment to the temporary rank of commodore was a result of his political connection and this was when Portsmouth Mayor Edward Linzee pressured the Admiralty to find a place for Hood. The appointment was officially agreed in April 1767. It discusses the accomplishments of Hood as commodore.
