This chapter discusses the results of the archaeological survey of the bottomlands of the Camotán Valley in Guatemala. The distribution and agricultural fertility of the site provides clues about Maya settlement strategies and dissolves the artificial boundary that has separated the research of the Guatemalan and Honduran pre-Columbian communities. Despite the semiarid conditions in the valley, there was evidence of human habitation in the area from 900 B.C. through the Late Classic A.D. 700–900.
