This chapter looks at Matthew Hale, who was principally responsible for resurrecting the organization in 1995. In that year, an enterprising young law student, Matt Hale, revived the church and became the movement's recognized leader. The organization was first rechristened the New Church of the Creator but soon thereafter the name was changed to the World Church of the Creator (WCOTC). Since assuming control, Hale has demonstrated an almost single-minded commitment to his leadership of the church. The membership composition of the WCOTC has drawn criticism in some quarters of the extreme right. Dr. William L. Pierce, the founder of the National Alliance, once stated at a National Alliance leadership conference that the WCOTC fulfilled a useful function in that it siphoned away the more dysfunctional activists from the National Alliance.
