This chapter examines rural-to-rural migration, focusing on the poultry industry's expansion into Upcountry Georgia and the many farmers who first turned to poultry while migrating to part-time work — usually in textile mills. As larger poultry farmers and agribusinesses dominated the market, small poultry farmers had to move off the land and find work elsewhere. The chapter provides a sense of how this migration happened in phases as opposed to being a spontaneous decision.
