This chapter argues that this book has called for a rebuilding of the manner in which Booker T. Washington is written and thought of. The chapter emphasizes that understanding Washington's entrepreneurial philosophy is a pre-condition for understanding him. Washington's entrepreneurial philosophy was shaped and molded by political, economic, and social forces that dominated during the period of Reconstruction; and key events and individuals served to either enhance his budding business philosophy or expand it once it had been established. The chapter highlights that the entrepreneurial philosophy hybrid was neither purely capitalistic nor purely socialistic, but contained elements of both ideologies.
