This book considers some changing, moving aspects of James Joyce's novel in three broad areas: genetic criticism, textual studies, and personal criticism. As the focus changes in various ways in these three views, the book's chapters attempt to show the monumental Ulysses turning into a mobile. Beginning almost immediately after Joyce's death in 1941, what is now known as “genetic criticism” has been an important approach to his works. This chapter briefly discusses the organization of this book. This book is arranged as a kind of mobile image, interspersing chapters from the three approaches of genetic, textual, and personal criticism.
