The chapter is about the events of the few days for the author after taking leave from the factory. She visited Nadia, Jamila, Aisha, and others during that time. The author remembers her discussions with these factory girls regarding marriage, pregnancy, and sickness. The chapter also presents an overview of Facances, the Moroccans who hold jobs abroad, often in France, hence the first part of the term. These migrant laborers return during the vacation months each summer (les vacances, in French, from where the whole term facances is derived). They often return loaded down with consumer goods from Europe, and with extra money to spend on luxuries for their families.
