While docked in the Bay of Saints, the Spanish fleet sent an army onto land in order to assist the fleet in the event that the Dutch attempted to prevent their landing. Maurits then led a land-based battle against the invading rebels, forcing them out by depriving them of food and water and with his guerrilla tactics. At the end of 1640, a solar eclipse occurred, which the Count ordered his mathematician to document, like many other great military leaders of the past.
