The intention of this chapter is not only to understand sociopolitical change during this transitional period on the North Coast, but also to suggest the potential benefits of cross-cultural comparison between this case study and other Andean or non-Andean societies for understanding frontiers and border zones, and the people who inhabited them. The movement of geopolitical boundaries on the north coast of Peru is placed within the context of the interpolity interactions of the larger region and time period.
