This chapter presents the history of research on the so-called Magician of Ridge Ruin, Arizona. Excavated in 1939, this is still one of the richest burials ever documented in the northern Southwest, and our understanding of this individual and his treatment in death are immeasurably enhanced by the Hopi archaeologists and cultural advisors who have identified the artifacts and ritual objects in the Magician's burial.
