This chapter provides a translation of Qian Qianyi's “You Huangshan ji” that was mainly based on the Muzhai chuxueji's SBCK edition of the text. The translator notes that references are also made to alternate versions, and the original literary names are utilized as much as possible. The translator indicates that the translation process entails much compromise since the style of the original text should be retained while the codes culturels on which the essay is based still have to be considered. While the text is made accessible and understandable for non-specialist readers, the translator also incorporates text from other existing translations. Also, the chapter contains detailed background and textual information along with some explanation about Chinese characters.
