This chapter provides an epidemiological profile of suicide in Japan, which has one of the highest suicide rates in Asia. Suicide rates in Japan have increased significantly over the past decade, with a rate of 23.1 per 100,000 in 2003. Depression is commonly found to be present among those who attempt to commit suicide and this depression has been shown to be work-related. Some implemented measures for suicide prevention are also discussed.
