This chapter examines the representations of male same-sex eroticism and other modes of queerness in contemporary Thai cinema. It proceeds from the proposition that cinematic expressions of queer desire in recent Thai films possess a distinctive cast that is at once specific and complex, forged in response to shifting discourses of Thai same-sex erotic intimacies as these are conceived and negotiated across the diverse field of modern Thai sexuality, and the multiple determinants—social, cultural, and economic; local, regional, and transnational—that govern it. The chapter argues that contemporary Thai cinema is an important component of the popular mediated Thai public sphere wherein same-sex eroticisms, and other aspects of Thai sexual modernities, are apprehended and processed in variable ways.
