This chapter describes the developing battle between British and Japanese forces in Hong Kong and the preparations by David MacDougall, one of the senior British intelligence officials in Hong Kong, in collaboration with Chan Chak (an old friend and colleague), to defend Hong Kong Island following the rapid loss of British control of Kowloon and the New Territories. MacDougall was to become one of the key figures in the escape from Hong Kong.
