The story now moves on to January 4, 1942 when the escape party reached Longchuan, after some delay, when Chan Chak got stuck on a mudbank. They were met by government officials with ceremonies and speeches and a huge banquet. The escape party were later taken by truck to Kukong. The journey is described in detail in this chapter.
