This chapter examines the changing priorities of the British government concerning their campaign in World War 1. Prime Minister David Lloyd George wanted the Middle East to become the focus of Great Britain's military effort in 1918. But Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS) William Robertson kept his eye firmly on the main body of the German army insisting that the war would be won or lost on the western front. Lloyd George's eastern approach was designed primarily to protect and expand the British Empire rather than defeat Germany.
