Regular Army

Show Summary Details

After the end of the war, Bill DePuy opted to stay and pursue a career in the army since, aside from how he would be receiving a much larger pay compared to what he would receive if he worked as a bank teller at home, he chose not to return to Dakota. He thought that Washington offered several different opportunities and experiences for him. Previously DePuy had not been able to obtain a commission in the Marine Corps as well as a Regular Army (RA) commission. After the war, however, he was encouraged to apply again, and the courage and skills he had developed from the war experience evidently gave him an advantage. This chapter provides information regarding DePuy's RA experience and normal career progression.
