Indiana is a red state in basketball. Assembly Hall is a cathedral of the college game. Bright red banners at both ends of the court celebrate the achievements of Bobby Knight's men's teams. There are much fewer banners for the women's basketball program, which has recently become more of a presence on campus and in the Big Ten. The women had a new head coach, Felicia Legette-Jack. In November 1976, Nancy Winstel played in Assembly Hall as a senior with her Northern Kentucky University (NKU) teammates, losing to Indiana. One year later Winstel ran the 30-second clock for all the women's games at Assembly Hall when she was a graduate student in Bloomington. Thirty years after playing for NKU on the court, she brought her own team to do the same.
