The Seven Bad Years

Show Summary Details

With no work in sight, Von Sternberg began writing on original screenplay called “The Seven Bad Years.” It was based on his childhood, and dealt in his words with man's fixation on an infantile level. Its purpose was to demonstrate the adult insistence to follow the pattern inflicted on a child in its first seven helpless years, from which a man could extricate himself and realize that an irresponsible child was leading him into trouble. The outline of the screenplay suggests a work of self-analysis that would have confronted for the first time the issues introduced elliptically into his earlier films, but no producer offered more than polite interest.
