This chapter discusses why the presidential impeachment took place in 2004 when the choices made appeared to be irrational to most observers of Korean politics. It describes the historical events that led to and included the impeachment vote in the Korean national assembly in 2004, before moving on to the two political events that followed the impeachment. It then evaluates the decisions made by both the president and the national assembly opposition.
