This chapter examines in detail three intense actions of elements of the 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry division, to defeat enemy probing attacks and then to hold the initial attacks of the Chinese and North Koreans that opened the night of 22–23 April. The Chinese believed that the 7th Infantry division was weaker and less capable than other divisions and attempted to hit such areas hardest. Personal accounts detail the Korean attack and the army's response. Again, analyses how terrain played a role in the battles.
