At the same time as Task Force Gerhart, IX Corps formed Task Force Hazel, drawn mostly from the 7th Infantry Division's 7th Reconnaissance Company, which pushed through heavily defended enemy territory to Ch'unch'on as a prelude to the push north to secure the important road network west of the Hwach'on Reservoir. The counterattack was intended to seize key terrain and disrupt Chinese withdraw. This chapter summarizes the results of the Communist Spring Offensive and the UN counteroffensive operations and their effect on the rest of the Korean War.
