This chapter examines how opera fans have reacted to the conflicts between house employees of the Colón Opera House and the city government which resulted in the rescheduling of some shows. It shows that one of the constitutive tenets of enjoying opera at the Colón relates to it being an island in time and space and that the breach of this isolation unleashed strategies for restabilizing it. This chapter argues that the conflict associated with the collapse of the boundaries of the opera may be related to the difficulty in maintaining its extraordinary character.
