SoHo lofts became increasingly upscale in the mid 1970s, as artists remade SoHo a more upscale neighborhood that attracted a wider population of residents. Fashionable lofts were featured in the local and national press, and loft renovation businesses began to appear across the city. Simultaneously, numerous businesses catering to gallery visitors opened, and lofts became the sites of, and inspiration for, several new commercial enterprises.
