This chapter examines the relationship between exporting and productivity using plant-level panel data on the Korean manufacturing sector during the period of 1990 to 1998. It aims to determine whether exporting improves productivity and whether more productive plants export. The findings support both self-selection and learning-by-exporting effects and indicate that the selection and learning effects are more pronounced at around the time of entry into and exit from the export market.
