This chapter examines the role of fathers in parenting in the U.S. It explains that after the war, the expectations for fathers as economic provider, as a pal and as a male role model was revived. This chapter also highlights the condescension toward fathers in magazine and newspaper articles and it also looks at other aspects of the culture of fatherhood.
