This chapter examines the impact of the television comedy Leave It to Beaver on the children of war veterans in the U.S. It suggests that the “Beaver's Hero” particularly struck a cord with veterans' families because 15 years after the war what fathers had done in the war remained a salient issue. This chapter also discusses commentaries that the show veritably defined television in the 1950s and became synonymous with ideas about family life during that period.
