This book has addressed the question “Why aid?” It has addressed the question at two levels: one describes the multiple and evolving purposes of aid-giving over the past half-century or so; the other digs into the political forces within five aid-giving countries that have shaped those purposes. This final chapter not only pulls together the answers provided by the history of aid and the five case studies, but also draws out several policy implications and peers into the future of foreign aid.
