This chapter presents the third-day experience of Jay Mechling while camping with Boy Scout Troop 49. Mechling went down to the Waterfront to watch the lifesaving merit badge class. The troop was ready for the last contest of the day, Poison Pit. Everyone present grasped the wrists of his neighbors to make a huge circle with the Poison Pit. After the contest, everyone changed clothes for the brief color assembly and then everyone was dismissed for patrol campfires. There was a brief meeting with the seniors on advancement. All gathered as usual for staff campfire, and Mechling steered conversation toward the issue of swearing, which had come up earlier in the day.
