This chapter presents the fifth-day experience of Jay Mechling while camping with Boy Scout Troop 49. The staff and seniors took the troop across the lake to the Old Usonia campsite, where the troop picked up the jeep trail that led troop to Little Bare Ass Slide (LBAS). The troop crossed the lake in boats and canoes, arriving at Old Usonia. Patrol campfires followed dinner and individual sports. After such a tiring day, the boys needed something more quiet and restful than a troop campfire. Mechling walked from one patrol site to another, but there seemed not to be much in the way of campfires at any site. In the main, boys were milling about in small groups or lounging in their sleeping bags.
