This chapter discusses changes in the work of the Charity Organization Society social workers in London during and after War World II. It explains that in 1943 COS social workers and officials participated in planning postwar reconstruction and securing a place for personal service agencies. This chapter suggests that during this period the emphasis on sacrifice and its rewards remade the social and political landscape and that the debates that changed the Charity Organization Society into the Family Welfare Association transformed a whole range of institutions.
