This chapter examines the experiences of male social workers. The number of men in social work during the 1920s and 1930s war very limited and they tended to specialize in child protection or what was often called “industrial work” that focused on dealing with older adolescents adjusting to adulthood. The case notes of male social workers reveal two kinds of dramas that described and enacted strong anxieties which influenced the way they deal with their clients.
