This chapter discusses Tooy's recollection of the exploits of his earliest remembered ancestor, Wii, and how he brought peace and lasting freedom to Saramaka. It provides the text of Wii's song of victory that Tooy always sings in remembrance of his ancestor. This chapter discusses research showing that Wii was an early maroon leader of the Langu clan who led a peacemaking expedition from Ndyuka to Saramaka and communicated to the whites the Saramakas' wishes for peace.
