This chapter discusses the revenge of a Frenchwoman against Tooy. Tooy's relatives from Pamaribo who informed that divination pointed to the Frenchwoman's spirit as the cause of all his troubles including the assault by masked assailants and his imprisonment. This chapter explains that though the Frenchwoman has been troubling Tooy's people for only a few decades her story weaves backward and forward through the last two centuries of Saramaka history.
