Postsurvey error is error that occurs after the interviews are conducted in the chapter. Postsurvey error is important since it directly affects the accuracy of survey results. Postsurvey error at the data processing and the survey reporting stages are described in this chapter, along with the effects of postsurvey error and ways to minimize such error. This chapter will discuss the important postsurvey process that has become known as data editing, trying to locate and correct the individual errors in survey data. Federal government surveys, in particular, devote a great deal of attention to data editing because of their need to produce accurate official data. The most important standard for survey data is that the data, survey questions, and procedures all be preserved in such a manner that they can be reexamined after the project is ended.
