This book is the eighth in a series of volumes on the economics of aging. The contributions in this volume discuss important implications of private and (potential) public personal retirement plans, discuss aspects of the health and wealth relationship, consider several aspects of health care in the United States, analyze the retirement effects of social security provisions in the United States and Germany, and consider new evidence on bequests and dissaving at older ages. This introductory chapter presents an overview of these contributions.
