Facets of globalisation discourse

Show Summary Details

This chapter compares the communication of globalisation discourse in Greece and Ireland. It analyses how the differences between Greece and Ireland can be explained. The analysis reveals that while the same hegemonic discourse prevailed in both countries during the 1990s, the way in which it was materialised at the national level was fundamentally different. Thus, we can talk about two different facets of the hegemonic/globalisation; political in the case of Greece and apolitical in the case of Ireland. Hegemonic discourse of globalisation emerged in Greece as a new zone of contestation while in Ireland it emerged as a new zone of consensus.
